Avoid using tiny lines, small text, or delicate features that may be difficult to reproduce accurately. If you do require intricate detailing, consider using silkscreen on your pins. Silkscreen is perfect for hard enamel since it can only be applied on smooth, raised surfaces.
If want to make a custom hard enamel pin, one thing you should know is that the plating choices are limited. Only polished plating options are available because of the polishing process used to create the smooth, durable surface. The pins are plated after they are colored and polished which makes it impossible to apply antique, rainbow and colored metal platings.

This means that while soft enamel pins can be made using all available plating types, hard enamel pins can only be made with polished platings.
While most custom enamel pins range between 1 to 2 inches, there is no “typical size”. The size that best fits your project will be determined by a multitude of factors including, but not limited to your personal preferences, the purpose of the pin, and the level of desired detail. The typical turn around time from when you place your order to the time they arrive on your doorstep is roughly 3 weeks. Keep in mind that hard enamel pins take longer to produce because of their coloring process. Therefore, hard enamel pins may not be the best option if you need your pins manufactured as quickly as possible.
